Eating in Maccagno: every place in the village
The short answer: Maccagno has seven places to eat, and you can walk to most of them from the campsite. On the water are the Lido and the Giona Beach Lounge, in the village La Concordia, La Gabella and Ristorante Maccagno, and up in the mountains the Ristoro at Lago Delio. If you just want to be fed after a day on the climbing wall, go to the Cinzanino.

Both are on the shore and within walking distance of the campsite.

By far the most-reviewed place in the village – over 500 guest reviews – and therefore the safest choice when you do not want a debate. Pizza and Italian standards, a large terrace facing the water. Full on summer evenings: book, or arrive before 19:30. Google Maps
Giona Beach Lounge

It hardly gets closer to the campsite. Not a full dinner but an aperitivo, a snack and the sunset with your feet almost in the sand. Ideal before eating in the village, less so as the main event. Google Maps

La Concordia

A ristorante-pizzeria in the middle of the village and a fixture for years. Classic pizza with regional dishes alongside. No lake view, but the place where locals sit too. Google Maps

A terrace looking out over the lake and a wide menu – the right address when one of you wants pizza and the other wants fish. At the northern end of the village, so the first place you reach coming from the campsite. Google Maps

Smaller and quieter than the Lido, with correspondingly less bustle. More of a dinner for two than a table for eight. Google Maps

At Lago Delio, the reservoir above Maccagno. Grilled food, simple and cheap. Worth it as the destination of a walk or a drive up, not as dinner around the corner – and the view from up there is the reason you go. Google Maps

The dish of the northern Italian lakes: risotto with pan-fried perch fillets, often with sage butter. Where it appears on the menu, it is usually the best measure of the kitchen.

The region's other lake fish, usually grilled or pan-fried. Much milder than sea fish.
Missoltini

Shad dried in the sun and preserved, traditionally served with polenta. Not for everyone, but the most authentic thing on any lake menu.

The further you go from the shore and up into the valleys, the more likely this replaces fish on the menu. In the agriturismi around here it is the rule.
Before you set off

- The closing day is usually Monday or Tuesday. Out of season several places open only at weekends.
