Between Porto Valtravaglia and Luino the shore climbs in terraces, and the Belmonte grounds sit on one of them. The apartment is a carefully furnished studio: a pale timber four-poster bed, sage-green walls, an old floor of irregular stone slabs – and a window wall with nothing behind it but the lake.
The balcony
Wrought-iron railing, a round table for two, a view across the bay to the far shore. In the morning the sun comes over the mountains; in the evening the whole valley is in light. This is where you sit in this apartment.
Living and cooking
Living and sleeping areas flow into one another, with a sofa, a dining table at the window and a TV. The kitchen is compact and complete: hob, oven, fridge, kettle, crockery for two. There is a proper desk with WiFi – working here for a few days works well.
Bathing
The bathroom is new, with a round mirror light and a level-access shower. The grounds have two pools in the gardens and private access to the lake over a shallow pebble beach.
Good to know
Lift in the building. Free parking. Designed for two; a travel cot is available on request. Luino is ten minutes by car, Porto Valtravaglia five.
